Taishakukyo gorge is one of Japan’s top five gorges, located in a majestic and magical-feeling national park setting.

HIGHLIGHTS OF TAISHAKUKYO GORGE
Onbashi Bridge
The biggest naturally occurring bridge in Japan, Onbashi is 90 meters (295 feet) long, 18 meters (59 feet) wide, 24 meters (79 feet) thick and situated 40 meters (131 feet) above the riverbed below.
The bridge is designated as a natural monument by the national government.
Yatatazu Castle Site Park
This park offers views of Shinryu Lake from above as well as other stunning scenery all around. It is said that, in 1551, a castle serving as a residence for Sho-no-jiro-saburo was located here.
Eimeiji Temple
This temple is said to have been established in 709 by the Buddhist priest and bodhisattva Gyoki.
Today, people come to worship in hopes for greater happiness.

Autumn Leaves at Shinryu Lake
You can relax and enjoy the colors of this virgin forest as it changes with the seasons from verdant greens to autumnal reds and golds, all while gentle breezes stir the surface of the lake.
Try the scenic boat cruise around Shinryu Lake—it takes about 40 minutes to circle the lake once.
From the water, you can view Taro-iwa Rock, a single wall of stone that rises to a height exceeding 100 meters (about 330 feet).

Shinryu Bridge Amidst Early Summer Greenery
Formerly known as Momiji-bashi (Autumn Leaves Bridge), the bridge was moved to its currently location in December 1985 as part of construction to preserve it for continued use.
The current bridge was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property by the national government in August 2009.
Dangyo-kei Gorge

Lower Taishakukyo Gorge
Even locals consider this to be a remote part of Taishakukyo Gorge, as it receives very few visitors.

Locations such as Hanazura Park and the Tateishi Castle Remains offer views downward into the gorge’s intricate, winding series of paths from above.
Lower Taishakukyo Gorge Mysterious Limestone Caverns
With a confirmed total length of 740 meters (about 2,430 feet), this is the longest limestone cavern in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Furthermore, it is one of only three places in the world where calcite formations can be seen in a limestone cave.
